Habitat in the Classroom is developed by the Outdoor Kids Club and Miami Valley Outdoor Media, Ltd.  The Outdoor Kids Club publishes outdoor children's books that educate and engage children in the outdoors.  You can check out more information about our books at www.outdoorkidsclub.com.

The founders of the Outdoor Kids Club are Dave and Steve Shellhaas.  Both are avid outdoor enthusiast and parents of children who love the outdoors.  Dave is a lifelong educator and has taught high school science for 11 years and has been a science curriculum specialist for the past 13 years.  Steve is a pediatric nurse practitioner.  Both bring a wealth of knowledge in the realms of education and child development.

Dave has brought his 25 years of educational experience to make this curriculum relevant and instructional sound.  He has knowledge of the common core standards for both English Language arts and mathematics.  He has also serves as a state reviewer for the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and has trained teachers in formative assessment and research-based instructional strategies for the past several years.  Dave has used his expertise in these areas to develop a rich, standards-based curriculum.

The Outdoor Kids Club is pleased to partner with Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever to develop the first curriculum program focusing on grassland and upland habitats.  This will be the first of many other curricula that will be developed around various habitats and habitat conservation efforts.
